Chorus Update for Concert Week

Courtesy of Kate:

Here's our update for concert week.
1. Homework from Lisa: Practice ! Practice! Practice! Pay attention to words. Watch dynamics! I got caught barreling in on an entrance last night in Promise of Living that was supposed to be soft. Fix your trouble spots. (We all know what we need to work on.)
Dynamics help for those who don't read music:
pp or ppp = extremely soft
p = very soft
mp = soft
mf = medium sound
f = loud
ff or fff = very loud
2. Please arrive at Elim Park at 7:15pm on Friday. We will begin promptly at 7:30pm. We will run the entire concert as we will give it on Sunday. No stopping to fix anything. This is out time to hear ourselves in the performance space, hear the 4 hand piano pieces with both pianists, hear the violinist and work with the sound guy. As I tell my students all the time, we need to listen, pay attention to the teacher (Lisa) and keep the chatterboxes closed. This will get us all home at a reasonable hour.
Concert Information will be in the comments.
See you on Friday!

CONCERT INFORMATION

The concert will be held in Nelson Hall at Elim Park which is located at 150 Cook Hill Road on Sunday, November 23rd at 3:00 pm.

The schedule for the week before the concert is as follows:
Tuesday – regular rehearsal at Elim Park.
Friday – dress rehearsal at Elim Park in Nelson Hall at 7:15 to 9:30/10:00. Dress Rehearsal does not mean we dress in our concert clothes; only that we run through the program as if it’s the real deal.
Sunday – arrive at Elim Park at 1:30. Here, we finish dressing for the concert. (scarves, cummerbunds, ties) and have a short warmup. We will meet in the old chapel when we get there. If there is any possibility that you can be dropped off, or that you can carpool with someone else, please do so, as there are not too many parking spaces available.
Please remember to bring either a plate of cookies or other refreshment item that you signed up for.

Some rules for the rehearsal and the concert:
1.Do not wear perfume or aftershave – We have people who are allergic.
2.Do wear deodorant.
3.Arrive on time.
4.Bring ticket money and give to Andrea. (Write down how many of each age group and price tickets you sold)If you sell tickets before the concert, pass the money in as soon as you have it. Don’t wait until the night of the concert.
5.Return unsold tickets so they can be sold at the door.
6.Everyone’s music should be in a black binder. To keep your binder light, take out your second half music when we’re singing the first half, and visa-versa. Also, before handing in your music, make sure that all of the pencil markings that you made on the music is erased.
7.Memorize as much of your music as you can. Remember, the audience wants to see your faces - not the tops of you heads. Also remember to keep alive up there, feel the lyrics, smile, let the audience see you “singing for joy”.
8.Keep your eyes on Lisa, always follow her lead.
9.Songs are not finished until Amy is finished playing. Don’t move your music or shuffle around until she is.
10.While soloists are singing, please stay as quiet as possible and keep your eyes on Lisa so that she can bring you in at the proper time.

Dress For The Concert:

Women: Ladies all wear long black skirts and long-sleeved white blouses of their own choosing. Black shoes should be worn. Scarves are provided at concert time to make for a more festive look. Makeup should be used. Although we are not on a stage with bright lights on our faces, we still don’t want to look like ghosts.
Men: Men must provide their own black tuxedo pants and white long-sleeved shirts. Bow ties and cummerbunds are provided by the Chorus.

The Afterglow Party:

On December 2nd at 6:30 pm we gather for food and fun at Sally Ziegler’s home. We each bring an appetizer or a dessert and our own beverage (water and coffee provided). We eat well, watch a DVD of our concert and sing along. All the songs we couldn’t manage to memorize for the concert, we can sing without music three days later. Sally lives at 25 Surrey Drive, Cheshire. The directions are: from Route 10, turn onto Wallingford Road by the Town Hall. Take your second left onto Williamsburg Drive. As you proceed the road becomes Far Horizon Drive. Follow Far Horizon until you come to Surrey . Take a left onto Surrey and Sally’s house is the first house on the left. If you are coming from Wallingford, from Route 68, turn left on Carriage Drive, continue to the end, Turn right onto Far Horizon Drive. Take your next right which is Surrey. Sally’s house is the first house on the left.

The Tree Lighting

The Tree Lighting will be held on Sunday, December 7th. Please arrive at the town green at 5:30pm. Caroling will begin at 5:45pm.

Concert for the Residents

We will give a short concert for the residents at Highland Health Center sometime during the second or third week of December. Fran or Kate will contact you with a date once it has been set. We usually arrive at about 5:30 and sing from 5:45 to about 6:30, including a sing along with the residents. Since we are not charged for the use of our rehearsal space, this is our way of saying thank you. Please wear black pants and red or green, festive Christmas colors on top.
